Journalists from all-Ukrainian and foreign media come to Nikopol every week. The city authorities always cooperate with them so that as many people as possible, both in Ukraine and in the world, learn about the extremely difficult conditions in which citizens live and work due to Russian aggression.

Over the last few days, we have witnessed a rapid collapse of the situation in a city that is struggling with a catastrophic lack of access to drinking water. This shortage, caused by the disappearance of water in the Kakhovsky Reservoir, affected every aspect of the inhabitants' lives. Both households and local businesses are at a critical point, and daily functioning has become extremely difficult.

However, this is not the only threat that Nikopol has to face. In recent days, there have been increasingly disturbing reports about the potential danger associated with the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, located not far from the city. The authorities warn that the power plant is still mined by the Russians, which poses not only a real risk of an explosion, but also a potential nuclear catastrophe with global consequences.

The world is concerned about the situation of Nikopol and Zaporozhye

This week, Nikopol was visited by journalists from Mainpost (Germany) and Anadolu Agency (Turkey). They spoke with the mayor and residents who have been living in the city under enemy fire for more than a year, and also visited water supply points.

Destroyed buildings and infrastructure have unfortunately become our everyday reality. And after the Russian troops blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station and destroyed the Kakhovka reservoir, our city had a problem with a centralized water supply.

“We are constantly working to resolve this issue, with no days off. The water supply in Nikopol has already been partially restored. In addition, there are more than 40 points with drinking water and 17 points with artesian water for all residents of Nikopol, as well as 14 points with bottled water for certain categories of citizens” said Mayor Oleksand Sayuk.

In addition, six wells have been equipped with tanks for collecting technical water, which can be collected by anyone.

Charities and volunteers help the city in providing water, for which we are very grateful – says the mayor of Nikopol.
