In the Indian city of Calcutta, on August 22, at the World Martial Arts Championship "WORLD KARATE & MARTIAL ARTS CHAMPIONSHIP 2022", mixed boxing coach Taras Shevchenko and his student Vsevolod Polyakovsky won gold. This became known from the coach - Taras Shevchenko.

Taras and his 9-year-old student Vsevolod could not come to India for the championship due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But the organizers of the competition treated our athletes with understanding and made an exception - they allowed to show the performance online. As a result of the demonstrative performances of the "executioner", the Buchanans won gold in their category.

The coach is Taras Shevchenko, 43 years old. He has lived in Buch all his life, became a doctor of psychological sciences, works at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as well as at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. In addition, the man has extensive experience in mixed martial arts, so he has been teaching his skills and abilities to children aged 2 to 12 for 7 years.

For Taras Shevchenko, victory at the World Championship is not only a sporting achievement, but also a personal victory. After all, during the occupation of Buchi, the man experienced his own complicated history. And even after that, he continued to teach children, but already in online mode.

After February 24, Taras carried groceries to the other side of the city for his 77-year-old mother every day, risking his own life. On March 8, he ran into Russian soldiers who almost shot him. The man was left alive, thanks to his little white dog Mary.

They told me that I have a great dog and I should thank her, because they will keep me alive because of her, - Taras added.

In a few days, the occupiers came to his house. "I saw the Russians' car and realized that they had most likely come after me, because many people said that the Russians came with lists of local names. I quickly grabbed my dog, my passport and ran out of the apartment. I ran for 7 hours to Romanivka in order to go to Kyiv from there. And when I returned home in June, the door to the apartment was broken."

The coach emphasizes that he teaches children, first of all, not to fight, but to teach them good qualities: "I teach them self-control, respect for each other, support. My lesson begins with the words "The sun shines in each of you, but you need to help others shine as well," - Taras added.

The man plans to continue teaching children and hopes that together with his students they will be able to win many more gold awards for Ukraine!
