In Nikopol and the region, they can sell cookies that are dangerous to health

The State Production and Consumer Service of Ukraine warns residents of the region: cookies that are dangerous to health may be sold in stores and markets. It contains acrylamide, which is a pollutant under EU legislation and is a potential human hazard. This is reported by the State Production and Consumer Service in the Dnipro region.

The Service has received a RASFF Food and Feed Rapid Alert System message. Experts found a high content of acrylamide in the batch of this pastry.

The product was manufactured in Romania (manufacturer: Ro Star S.A., Romania), exported from Poland (wholesaler: VYV DISTRIBUTION Sp. z o.o., Poland) to Ukraine (recipient: Lviv Import LLC, Lviv).

Acrylamide is a chemical compound that is formed naturally during the heat treatment of coffee, chocolate, almonds, French fries, crackers, chips, cookies, bread, etc.

The conclusion of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) confirms that acrylamide in food can increase the risk of cancer for consumers of all ages, and that glycidamide, one of the main products of metabolism, is the most likely cause of gene mutations and tumors observed in experiments on animals. Therefore, its content in food products is controlled by relevant authorities.

Guided by Article 20 of the Law of Ukraine "On Basic Principles and Requirements for the Safety and Quality of Food Products", market operators are obliged to remove and/or recall, in cases established by law, products that are in circulation, if it is established that these products may cause a harmful effect for human health.

The head office of the State Production and Consumer Service in Dnipropetrovsk region warns about the possibility of circulation and sale of the above-mentioned products in the territory of the region.

We also inform the market operators who circulate the above-mentioned products about the need to withdraw them from circulation, as well as inform the Main Department of the State Production and Consumer Service in the Dnipropetrovsk region in writing about the detected non-compliance within a period of no more than two working days.
