The Academy Awards announced the nominees on Tuesday, January 24. The documentary A House Made of Splinters, produced by Denmark, Ukraine, Sweden and Finland, has entered the list of nominees for the 2023 Oscar.

A film about Ukrainian children living in a shelter located next to the front line, House of Chips, directed by Dane Simon Lehreng Vilmont, will compete for the 2023 Oscar in the Best Documentary category. The film was co-produced by Denmark, Ukraine, Sweden and Finland. From the Ukrainian side, the second director and line producer is Azad Safarov.

This is the first time a Ukrainian film and a film about Ukraine has been nominated for an Academy Award.

The House of Chips tells the story of Ukrainian children from difficult families who ended up in a shelter located next to the front line. They spend nine months in the shelter. Then they either return to their parents, or end up in a boarding school or a foster family.
