In 2022, more than 100 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in the US, despite attempts to actively move the country towards acceptance of the queer community. Over 100 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced in the US this year. From restricting medical care to minors, when you need to confirm your gender, to restricting attendance at drag performances.

There were 120 bills in 22 states, most of them targeting young trans people.

Texas submitted the most with 36 bills, followed by Missouri with 26. On. third place is North Dakota - 8. And Oklahoma - 6.

Bills aimed at restricting the participation of trans girls/women on sports teams that match their gender identity have been proposed this year in at least three states.

At least 11 states have proposed legislation that would restrict medical services that require proof of gender to minors.

Chase Strangio, deputy director of the American Civil Liberties Union's LGBT and HIV Project, told NBC News that "the right-wing shift in state legislatures is really scary."

He continued: “We are seeing ongoing erosion and efforts to curb and enforce gender freedom across the board. I think that many people take for granted the problems with this situation. Especially people who live in states like New York and California and don't pay attention to what's going on in states like Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas."

The surge in anti-LGBTQ+ bills has raised concerns among some queer activists that 2023 will be the worst year for queer positive laws ever.
